There are 5 different John Deere 3010’s. There is a row crop, standard, utility, orchard and wheel versions. The first 4 are all designed for use in agriculture while the wheel is an industrial version of the 3010. They are are all very similar with some obvious differences. For example the row-crop model has a slightly higher ground clearance than the other verisons. The JD 3010 was rolling off John Deere production lines quite a while ago from 1961 -1963.
If you were buying the 3010 brand new, then you would get a choice of 3 engines:
- A 3.3 liter, 4 cylinder gasoline engine made by John Deere
- A 3.3 liter, 4 cylinder LP Gas engine made by John Deere
- A 4.2 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engine made by John Deere
The 3010 had a tank capable of holding 29 gallons (or 109.8 liters) of fuel and requires 9.5 gallons (26 liters) of hydraulic fluid in it’s closed hydraulic system.
A wheelbase of 7′ 6″ (228 cm) supports a weight of 5,800 lbs (2630 kg). The John Deere 3010 has 8 forward gears and 3 reverse and has a maximum power of 59.4hp.
Many people who have owned a 3010, have been able to keep it for longer than most other brands of tractors due to John Deere’s well known machine-reliability. In fact today there are still many working JD 3010’s that have either been modified for attachments (front end loader, backhoe, etc.) or kept in their original state as classic tractors.
The team here at Tractor Review is very fond of the 3010 model. As are others! (They did sell over 40,000 in the 2 years that it was in production, so hopefully that gives you an idea of it’s popularity). When the 3010 was retired from production, the newer (updated) model was introduced, the 3020 which had a production run of 8 years from ’64 to ’72.
Just one final note: the original 3010 came without a roll bar, so if you are looking for an classic and unmodified 3010, make sure that it doesn’t have one.
